Tile Roof Solar Panel Cleaning Las Vegas

Short answer: concrete tile cracks under the wrong step, so our tile roof solar panel cleaning Las Vegas service works from the ground with water-fed poles whenever the panels are in reach. When we do have to go up, we step only on the bottom three inches of each tile, where roof-tile maker Eagle Roofing says the lapped tile below carries the weight. We photograph the roof before we start, ask about spare tiles, and tell you about any cracked tile we find.

Why tile roofs need a different approach

You will see concrete tile on a lot of Las Vegas homes, from Summerlin and Anthem to Aliante, so careful footing is part of almost every Las Vegas solar panel cleaning job. It holds up well to sun and heat, but it is brittle under a point load, like a heel or a knee in the wrong place.

  • Breakage is usually on you. Tile makers often do not warrant breakage caused by foot traffic, according to Eagle Roofing.
  • A cracked tile can become a leak. Broken tiles leave the underlayment open to water and UV, and monsoon storms find those gaps.
  • Panels sit close to the tile. Arrays on tile are mounted on hooks or standoffs, so there is little room to work and lots of tile to step around.
  • Pigeons love tile. Birds nest both under the panels and in the gaps under curved tiles. See pigeon proofing.

How we clean solar panels on a tile roof

  1. Ground first. On most one-story homes we reach the whole array with water-fed poles from the ground or a ladder at the eave.
  2. Photos before we touch anything. Any tile that is already cracked or slipped is documented before work starts.
  3. When we must walk: bottom three inches of each tile, feet parallel to the ridge, weight spread softly, and well away from hips and valleys where cut tiles break easily.
  4. Barrel and S-tile: heel and toe on the high points of two neighboring tiles, never in the trough.
  5. Deionized water and soft brushes, so nothing scratches the glass and no white spots dry on it.
  6. A look around the mounts. We check the tiles around each hook and standoff and note anything that looks lifted or cracked.

Cracked tiles, spare tiles and who fixes them

We clean panels. We do not repair roofs. If we find a cracked or slipped tile, we photograph it and tell you, so you can call a licensed roofing contractor before the next storm. You can check any contractor’s license with the Nevada State Contractors Board.

Some builders leave a few spare tiles in the garage. If you have them, tell us before we start. A matching spare makes any later tile repair simpler.

Does a tile roof cost more?

Usually a little. Careful footing and ground-pole work take longer than walking a shingle roof. See the Las Vegas solar cleaning price guide for how roof type moves the price, or read about residential solar panel cleaning. Not sure your neighborhood is covered? See our service areas.

Tile roof solar panel cleaning Las Vegas FAQs

Can you clean solar panels on a tile roof without breaking tiles?

We work from the ground with water-fed poles whenever we can. When we have to walk, we step only on the bottom three inches of each tile, feet parallel to the ridge, and stay off hips and valleys, which is how tile maker Eagle Roofing says to walk a tile roof.

What happens if a tile is already cracked?

We photograph the roof before we start, so existing cracks are documented. If we find a cracked or slipped tile, we show you the photo so you can have a licensed roofer replace it before the next storm.

Do you need to remove tiles to clean my panels?

No. Cleaning is done from above the panels. Tiles only come off for roof repairs or when a solar contractor removes panels, and that is not part of a cleaning.

Is it safe to clean solar panels on my tile roof myself?

We do not recommend walking a tile roof yourself. Tiles crack easily, and tile makers often do not cover breakage from foot traffic. A soft brush on a pole from the ground is safer if you want to do it yourself.

Does cleaning on a tile roof cost more?

Usually a little, because careful footing and pole work take longer. Panel count and roof height still matter more to the final price.
