Solar Panel Warranty in Las Vegas: Will Cleaning Void It?
Short answer: no, a careful cleaning won’t void a solar panel warranty. What can void it is cleaning the wrong way. Panel makers like REC say the warranty only holds if you follow the manual, and they rule out pressure washers, steam cleaners and harsh chemicals. Not cleaning won’t void it either. Qcells, for example, sets no cleaning schedule in its warranty terms.

The three warranties on a solar system
Most owners have more than one warranty, and they come from different companies. Knowing which is which tells you who to call.
| Warranty | Who gives it | What it covers | Typical length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product (equipment) | Panel maker | Defects in materials or manufacturing | 10 to 15 years traditionally, now often 20 to 25 |
| Performance | Panel maker | Output staying above a set level as panels age | Usually 25 years, ending around 80% to 90% of original output |
| Workmanship | Installer | Problems caused by the installation, such as leaks or wiring | Often 10 to 25 years |
Newer panels can beat those numbers. Qcells’ terms for its Q.TRON panels, for example, give a 25-year product warranty and promise at least 98.5% of rated output in the first year, then no more than 0.33% loss a year after that.
What panel makers actually say about cleaning
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| REC cleaning guide | The warranty is only valid if the installation manual instructions are followed. Pressure or steam cleaners, high-pressure hoses, knives, blades and metal sponges are not permitted. No acid or alkali detergents. |
| REC cleaning guide | A garden hose at normal household pressure is fine. Clean only when panels are cool, and use a soft sponge, microfiber cloth or soft brush. |
| REC cleaning guide | Never stand on, walk on, lean on or put pressure on the panels. |
| LONGi maintenance manual | Keep the water and the panel within 10°C of each other, and clean early in the morning, at dusk or on a cloudy day. |
| Qcells warranty terms | Damage from “incorrect, improper or inadequate” service or maintenance is not covered. |
Put simply: soft tools, plain or deionized water, cool panels and nobody standing on the glass keeps you inside the rules. A crew with a pressure washer at noon does not.
Does not cleaning void the warranty?
This is a scare line some door-to-door cleaners use, and it doesn’t hold up for most owners. The warranty terms we have read set rules for how to clean, not how often. Qcells’ Q.TRON terms, for example, say nothing about a required cleaning schedule. They exclude damage from improper maintenance, which is a different thing.
Ask any company that says your warranty requires cleaning to show you the line in your panel maker’s warranty. If they can’t, you can decide on cleaning the normal way: by whether it pays. See how often to clean solar panels and is solar panel cleaning worth it.
Damage you might see, and which warranty it falls under
| What you see | Likely cause | Who to contact |
|---|---|---|
| Browning, bubbles, peeling layers or snail trails | Often a product defect or aging problem | Panel maker, through your installer or directly |
| Output well below the performance guarantee | Panel degradation or a fault | Panel maker, with your monitoring data |
| Roof leak around mounts, loose racking | Installation | Installer’s workmanship warranty |
| Cracked glass from a fall, a tool or someone walking on it | Physical damage | Usually not covered by the panel warranty; check homeowner’s insurance |
| Burn marks, melted connectors, a scorched disconnect box | Electrical fault | Stop. Call a licensed solar electrician before anything else |
We see some of these during cleanings and photograph them, but we don’t diagnose or repair them. If you want a written record before a claim or a home sale, a solar panel inspection gives you dated photos of every panel.
If your installer went out of business
A lot of Las Vegas owners are in this spot. The good news: the panel maker’s product and performance warranties are separate from the installer’s, so they don’t disappear when the installer does. Only the installer’s workmanship warranty is usually lost.
- Find the panel brand and model on the label on the back of a panel, in your sales contract or in your monitoring app.
- Gather the original invoice, the panel serial numbers and the name of the company that sold the system. Qcells, for example, asks for all three in its claim process.
- Photograph the problem and save monitoring screenshots that show the drop.
- Contact the panel maker’s warranty team directly.
- For any electrical repair, hire a licensed contractor. You can check a license with the Nevada State Contractors Board.
Solar panel warranty questions
Does not cleaning my solar panels void the warranty?
Not under the warranty terms we have read. They say how to clean, not how often, and exclude damage from improper maintenance. Ask anyone who claims otherwise to show you the exact line in your panel maker’s warranty.
Does pigeon mesh void my solar panel warranty?
It shouldn’t if it is installed without drilling into the panel frames or racking. Mesh is usually held on with clips. Drilling the frame can go against the installation manual, so ask how any installer attaches it before work starts.
Is my panel warranty still valid if my installer went out of business?
Usually yes. The product and performance warranties come from the panel maker, not the installer. You lose the installer’s workmanship warranty, but you can still file panel claims with the manufacturer.
Does a solar panel warranty transfer when I sell my house?
Often, yes. Qcells, for example, lets the warranty pass to a new owner when the whole system is sold and stays where it was installed. Check your own panel maker’s terms and keep the paperwork for the buyer.
Will a professional cleaning void my warranty?
Not if it follows the manual: soft tools, plain or deionized water, cool panels, and no walking on the glass. Ask any cleaner, including us, what tools and water they use before booking.
Want your panels cleaned the way the manual says?
Tell us your panel brand if you know it, your panel count and your roof type. We will reply with a price and the method we use.
